San Diego Asian American Repertory TheaterLa Jolla Playhouse designed the Resident Theatre Program to address the lack of available, affordable performance spaces for many vibrant theatre companies in San Diego. Now in its third season, the Playhouse is excited to award the 2010/2011 Residency to San Diego Asian American Repertory Theater (SDAART). SDAART celebrates and gives voice to the Asian American experience. It has contributed to cultural diversity and education in San Diego for 15 years, producing 35 plays including five world premieres. It gives local audiences as chance to see Asian Americans as simply Americans — beyond race, preconceptions and boundaries. Recent popular productions include The Joy Luck Club and Hip-Hop Kim-Bop: A Korean Herstory. Special thanks to the Parker Foundation and Gerald T. and Inez Grant Parker, this season's supporters of the Resident Theatre Program.
